Dåb

Dåben er et fundament at stå på og et udtryk for, at Gud og mennesker hører sammen, hvad enten man bliver døbt som barn eller voksen. I Sømandskirken kan både børn og voksne, der har en relation til Danmark eller til Sømandskirken, blive døbt.

Inden dåben skal man i god tid henvende sig til Sømandspræsten for at aftale et tidspunkt for dåben og en dåbssamtale. Til dåbssamtalen vil præsten gerne møde den, der skal døbes, og hvis det er et barn, begge forældre. Til dåbssamtalen skal man medbringe:

    • Fødselsattest 
    • Navn og adresse på min. 3 og max. 5 faddere/dåbsvidner. Mindst to faddere skal være til stede ved dåben eller via Zoom. 
    • For børn og unge under 18, skal begge forældre være til stede og indforstået med dåben. 

Hvis dåben foregår til en almindelig højmesse, er det gratis. Ønsker man en dåb uden for den almindelige højmesse koster det $600, som kan betales online her.

Hvem kan være fadder eller dåbsvidne? 

Faddere og dåbsvidnerne deler et særligt øjeblik med den døbte, som de siden kan se tilbage på dåben sammen. Fadderne skal være vidner til dåben og har til opgave at sørge for at opdrage barnet i den kristne tro, hvis forældrene falder fra, mens dåbsvidner kan være fortrolige venner, som har lyst til at diskutere livets store spørgsmål med den døbte. Faddere og dåbsvidner skal være kristent døbt (fx som protestanter, katolikker, metodister eller presbyterianere) og må ikke være konverteret til en anden religion.

 

Baptism

Baptism is an expression of the unity of God and humankind, whether one is baptized as a child or an adult. Children and adults with relation to Denmark can be baptized in the Danish Seamen’s Church. Contact the pastor directly to schedule a date for the baptism as well as a meeting prior to the baptism.

At the baptism meeting, the priest would like to meet whoever is getting baptized, and if it is an underage child, both parents. The following should be brought to the baptism meeting:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Names and addresses of the baptism witnesses / godparents (min. 3 and max. 5 people).
  • For children and young people under the age of 18, both parents need to be present and consent to the baptism

If the baptism happens during a regularly scheduled service, there is no charge. If you prefer to do the ceremony as a private church service, there is a $600 charge which can be paid here.

 

Who can be a godparent or a baptism witness?

A godparent and baptism witness share the special occasion with the baptized, so they can look back on the ceremony together. Godparents bear witness to the baptism and are tasked with raising the child in the Christian faith, if their parents pass, while baptism witnesses can be confidential friends who want to discuss ethical life questions with the baptized. Godparents and baptism witnesses must themselves have be baptized in the Christian faith (for example as Protestants, Catholics, Methodists or Presbyterians) and cannot have converted to another religion.
