New York er en utrolig spændende og fascinerende by, og Sømandskirken kan danne en unik ramme om en vielse i New York. Brooklyn Heights Promenade med Manhattan skyline som imponerende baggrund ligger lige ved siden af kirken og er det perfekte sted at få taget bryllupsbilledet. I særlige tilfælde kan vielsen foregå uden for Sømandskirken. I det tilfælde skal der også betales transport for sømandspræsten og eventuelt sanger og organist.
Der er nogle formaliteter, der skal være på plads for at blive gift i Sømandskirken i New York: Hvis I bor i Danmark skal en af jer være medlem af folkekirken, for at kunne blive gift i Sømandskirken. Hvis I er bosat i resten af verden, skal en af jer være kristent døbt for at blive gift i Sømandskirken.
Sømandskirkens præst forretter kirkelige velsignelser af allerede indgåede ægteskaber samt vielser imellem par af samme køn såvel som par af forskellige køn.
Samtale med præsten
Sømandspræsten vil gerne have lov til at hilse på jer inden vielsen, og I bedes kontakte Sømandspræsten for at aftale en dato for brylluppet og en samtale. Til samtalen skal I medbringe:
-Marriage License,
-kopi af jeres dåbs/fødselsattester
-evt. skilsmissepapirer.
Pris
Et bryllup i Sømandskirken koster $750, og gives som donation til Sømandskirken. Gaver til Sømandskirken er fradragsberettigede i USA i henhold til gældende skatteregler.
Marriage License
Da brylluppet finder sted i staten New York, kræves en Marriage License fra New York State. Den svarer til en dansk prøvelsesattest. En Marriage License kan man få på Marriage License Bureau på City Clerk enten i Brooklyn eller på Manhattan.
I kan udfylde jeres Marriage License online, da det vil gøre processen hurtigere, når I er oppe hos City Clerk. I skal begge møde op personligt for at hente jeres Marriage License. Man skal forevise gyldig legitimation med billede - f.eks. et pas.

Nogle uger efter vielsen sender New York State en amerikansk vielsesattest til jer. Der er ingen automatisk tilbagemelding til de danske myndigheder. Derfor skal I selv sørge for at få vielsen og evt. navneskifte registreret på rådhuset eller kirkekontoret der, hvor I bor.
En Marriage License koster $35, og der betales med kreditkort (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) en såkaldt money order, som købes i en bank eller på et posthus.
En Marriage License skal være mere end 24 timer og mindre end 60 dage gammel for at være gyldig. En Marriage License fra New York State kan kun bruges i staten New York.

Wedding
New York is an incredibly exciting and fascinating city, and the Danish Seamen's Church can provide a unique setting for a wedding in New York. The Brooklyn Heights Promenade with the Manhattan skyline as an impressive background, is situated close by the church and is the perfect place to take your wedding photo. On special occations it will be possible for the pastor to perform a wedding at another church. In such case, transportation costs for the pastor, the singer and the organist will have to be covered.
There are some formalities which must be in place in order to get married in the Danish Seamen's Church in New York:
If you live in Denmark, one of you must be a member of the Danish folkekirke in order for you to be married in the Seamen's Church. If you live anywhere else in the world, one of you must be baptized to be able to get married in the Danish Seamen's Church.
The Danish Seamen's Church performs church blessings and weddings of same-sex couples as well as couples of different sexes.
Interview with minister
The pastor would be like to meet you before the wedding, and you should contact the pastor to arrange a date for the wedding and a pastoral conversation. For this meeting you should bring:
- Marriage License
- Copy of your baptismal / birth certificates
- Possibly. divorce papers.
Price
The cost of a wedding in the Seamen's Church is $750, given as donation to the Danish Seamen's Church in New York. Gifts to the Seamen's Church are tax deductible in the U.S. under current tax rules.
Marriage License
When the wedding takes place in state of New York State you will require a Marriage License from the New York State. A Marriage License can be obtained at the Marriage License Bureau at the City Clerk either in Brooklyn or Manhattan.
You can fill in your Marriage License application online, as it will make the process faster when you are at City Clerk. You are both required to appear in person at the City Clerk in order to get your Marriage License. You must present a valid photo ID - for example a passport.

A few weeks after the ceremony, the state of New York will send you an American marriage certificate. There is no automatic feedback to the Danish authorities. Hence, make sure you get the wedding and possibly name change registered at the town hall or church office, where you live.
A Marriage License is $35 and must be paid by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) or a money order. Money orders can be purchased at a bank or post office in the U.S.
A Marriage License must be more than 24 hours and less than 60 days old to be valid. A Marriage License from the state of New York is only valid in the State of New York.
